What's In Your Jar?

This past week a friend of mine sent me 2 Kings 4!  I asked my friend what do you want me to get out of this scripture.  My friend replied “Don’t know. God said to send it to you.”  I read the scripture and my thoughts were “I have read this before. This isn’t new to me.”  Well, this morning as I was asking God what I needed to write on today God said 2 Kings 4.  I read it again, but this time God showed me something that I hadn’t really thought about before.

“Elisha said to her, “What shall I do for you? Tell me; what have you in the house?” And she said, “Your servant has nothing in the house except a jar of oil.” Then he said, “Go outside, borrow vessels from all your neighbors, empty vessels and not too few. Then go in and shut the door behind yourself and your sons and pour into all these vessels. And when one is full, set it aside.” So she went from him and shut the door behind herself and her sons. And as she poured they brought the vessels to her. When the vessels were full, she said to her son, “Bring me another vessel.” And he said to her, “There is not another.” Then the oil stopped flowing. She came and told the man of God, and he said, “Go, sell the oil and pay your debts, and you and your sons can live on the rest.””
‭‭2 Kings‬ ‭4:2-7‬ ‭ESV‬‬

God pointed out to me today that the oil represented knowledge and wisdom, and the jars represented people. When we are alone and it’s just us in our house we live in poverty. However, when we use what God has given us and taught us to help fill up other people by teaching, training, and encouraging we are filling up vessels. These vessels will be returned to us and bring joy, wealth, and happiness!  It is in the joy of helping someone else that we maintain our happiness and wealth is created. ! God then reminded me of Luke 6:38.

That scripture reads…

“give, and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For with the measure you use it will be measured back to you.””
‭‭Luke‬ ‭6:38‬ ‭ESV‬‬

This scripture is often quoted during the tithes and offerings of a service and it’s rightfully so.   However, there is a previous  part of this scripture that is before this.

““Judge not, and you will not be judged; condemn not, and you will not be condemned; forgive, and you will be forgiven;”
‭‭Luke‬ ‭6:37‬ ‭ESV‬‬

When we deal with people people are often judgemental, condemning, and carry unforgiveness.  However, we when partner with the Holy Spirit to teach others on how to live our lives free from judging, condemnation, and unforgiveness and give of ourselves we then have good pressed down, shaken together, and running over!   Before you can help someone else though you must first help yourself!

So today I ask you what is in your jar?

Are you pouring into others good things? Do you have a negative attitude? Do you sow negativity?  Then you will reap it as well. Or do you encourage others? Do you seek out ways to help others? Do you spread positivity? Then you will reap it as well!

I try everyday to share positivity to others. I try my hardest not to judge and condemn others.  I try my very best to walk in a spirit of forgiveness.  I try to be an example to others. Do I do it perfectly? No! I slip up and fail. I ask God’s forgiveness and I forgive myself.

As I write this I sense that some of the readers have faced terrible things such as rape and/or molestation. Forgiveness is the key to unlock your vessel!  For those readers…You didn’t do anything to deserve what happened to you. It wasn’t your fault. It was just something bad that happened. As hard as it is you need to forgive the person(s) that hurt you.

A prayer…

Father God, I thank you for today. I thank you for the breath that is in my lungs. I thank you for sending your son, Jesus, to die for all of my sins!  God, today is August 8th. It is 8/8.  8 is the number of new beginnings!  I pray that today as people read this message that they will ask for forgiveness and start to walk in the new beginning that you have for them. I pray that people will become more aware of what they pour into others. I pray that as the people are being changed from glory to glory that you will bless them, enlarge their territories, bless them beyond all comprehension!  Let them feel the love of you, Father God! Some people have been wounded by their earthly fathers. I pray that these people would feel your love even greater and for them to know that you, Father God, are nothing like an earthly father! You desire us to walk in health and be prosperous!  Thank you, Father God, for all these things.  In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, amen!
